Indulge or DIY, we’ve got you covered!
We’ve been wrapping gifts at the shop like a bunch of little elves… and it’s not all red and green, because who says it has to be?! We are loving the modern take on traditional patterns with brights and sparkles.
And if you’re not available to take advantage of our gift wrapping services we have a template of really cute tags for you to download and print on any color you like – we printed ours on fuchsia cardstock. Happy Holidays!

THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME…
October 22, 2013
The nights are colder and the leaves have turned. Wedding season has crept to it’s usual halt in the northwest. My photographer friends relinquish their weekends of travel for days in front of their computer screens editing thousands and thousands of photos from all those wedding getaways. And the rest of us get to relive another successful wedding season through the mountains of photographer blog posts to come.
My 2013 wedding season brought new adventure and it the midst of what could have been pure chaos, Kelsey and her mom Kim put their trust in me that I could still pull of the level of service and attention I pride myself on. And, what a blessing they were! I could have ended up with the type of client that immediately made me question, “What was I thinking?!” but Kelsey and Kim’s calming presence made them an absolute joy to work with and solidified the fact that I could in expand my design business and that it was a good move to do so. Their invitations were created with our line from Smock which I detailed here.
Thank you to Kim and Kelsey for being my first clients in 2013 – the year my little business took a leap of faith, moved out of my house and opened it’s doors downtown. And thank you to Kate Price Photography for documenting these lovely people!
Details: Sean and Kelsey were married at the Ferry Terminal in Fairhaven and Sinclair & Moore was the event designer.

I’ve had a love affair with crepe paper for a long time. Partly because of it’s versatility and partly because it has been so elusive. Until now.
Having three daughters I throw a lot of fun and frilly birthday parties. Locally speaking, party decor that isn’t super chintzy (like, will this even hold up for a three hour party?) or isn’t covered with licensed cartoon characters is hard to come by…
Last week at the shop we received our stock of exquisite crepe paper from Italy that is a great weight and comes in to die for shades.
Metallic silver? YES.
Metallic gold? You betcha.
Ombré? Ohhhh yeah.
So, to help you celebrate and get creative we’ve rounded up our favorite crepe paper projects!
All photos from their respected sources and tutorials: The top three photos are from Oh Happy Day, here & here.
Giant Paper Bloom found on Studio DIY and Ice Cream Piñata from Simply Modern Mom.
Surprise Balls spotted on Ardor. And last but not least, the monster blue fringe featured on Oh Happy Day created by Seattle blogger Hank & Hunt.
FANCY THAT FONT // SUMMER NOSTALGIA
July 17, 2013
Maybe it’s the uncharacteristic, dare I say, “hot”, northwest summer this year.
Or the adorable goodies we just got at the shop from my other home state of Iowa by Moglea.
Or perhaps I’m just settling in to my downtown digs – the Saturday Farmer’s Market crowd is proving to be a favorite…
But whatever it is, this little iconic font called Farmer’s Delight was too cute not to have a featured post. And if you are in the midst of wedding day stationery and are needing meal indicators for your place cards… boom! Cute and free.

THE MASSIVE BEFORE // AFTER POST

SPRUCE took over the location on Cornwall Avenue in downtown Bellingham back in March. What used to be a thrift store become additional room for our neighbors, Pure Bliss Desserts, and our shop.
It needed a lot of love, which was equally exciting and daunting. A girlfriend of mine told me early on when I was contemplating the space, “No! That place is so gross.” And while part of what makes me love her is her unabashed honesty, I knew she was wrong on this one. But what can I say? I’ve always liked a challenge. And I knew the synergy with Pure Bliss would be a good fit.
Above on the left is mostly the original space as we took it over – at this point the only thing we had done was tear out the blue carpet. On the right you can see we put up a wall (which houses all our flat gift wrap) to close off the portion that was taken over by the neighboring dessert shop.
Here’s Lloyd. Can we all virtually high five him? He was the magician/trim carpenter extraordinaire that brought to life all my Pinterest dreams and drawings of what I wanted the shop to be. On the left he’s contemplating our dual purpose cash wrap + design bar. On the right is where you can make your purchases or pull up a stool and pour over our stationery books. We currently carry bridal, baby announcements and holiday cards with more to come!
I love me a good statement piece. That’s where our mossy beast came in. A $50 Craigslist find made my crazy dreams true.
After four months of construction plus time for buying and stocking, we quietly opened our doors on Tuesday, June 25.
Huge, enormous thanks to my husband who thought my new endeavor wasn’t totally nuts and put his crew to work on our space. To Andi, owner of Pure Bliss Desserts for thinking of us as a good fit for their neighbors and letting us help them with their mini expansion. To Ethan and Tim, probably the best landlords a gal could wish for… they fully embraced my concept and they never told me “no” during renovation 🙂 To my girls for sharing my excitement and being bought off with gelato and cupcakes on the days they spent far too much time helping me unpack and price inventory. To Michele M. Waite for my stellar “after” photos. And last, but not least, to all the customers who have come in and mirrored our enthusiasm. We are excited to be here and can’t wait to share in your celebrations with you!
